Andre Gisson (1921-2003)
Important American Impressionist
Andre Gisson, widely believed to be French, was actually Anders Gittelson, an American born in New York. He used the name change and age change to enhance his career.
During WW II, he enlisted in the Army and helped construct roads and airfields, all the while continuing to paint. After the war, he received a scholarship to the prestigious Pratt Institute, where he continued to further develop and refine his techniques.
Gisson paintings are highly treasured and are held in many important collections around the world. His works also sell well at major auctions and are steadily increasing in value.
