Giovanni Sanvitale
The extraordinarily talented Italian artist, Giovanni Sanvitale, was born in Torino in 1935. He began painting as a boy, continued through his time at the Albertina Academy, and continues to this day.
Sanvitale paints many different subjects, always with the same degree of enthusiasm. Portraits, still life, landscapes, animals and the human figure are all inspirations for his classical and figurative art. He is bound to the best traditions of the XIX century in Europe.
His well known pastoral and rural scenes depict small animals and compositions with flowers and fruit. Also, in high demand, are his city scenes, such as Parisian streets and the canals of Venice. Being a versatile artist, he is frequently requested to paint portraits due to his insight of the human figure. He is able to create excellent portraits from photographs, when it is not possible to view the person in real life.
At one time, he painted his landscapes in plein air; however, today he prefers to paint in his studio.
Over the years, his works have been presented in exhibitions in Italy, Germany, Austria and the U.S.A. As a result, Sanvitale paintings are held in private collections around the world, including The Pierce Gallery owner's private collection.
