An original oil painting by the famous French artist, Jean Rigaud (1912-1999). This piece is very beautiful and an excellent example of the artist's top work. Jean was the son of the artist, Pierre Gaston Rigaud, and received his early art education from his father. Later studies at the Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris enabled him to refine his skills and develop his unique style that made him famous.
Rigaud held over 50 one-man exhibitions at all of the leading Paris Salons. From 1956 to 1974, he exhibited every other year at the Gallerie Duran Ruel. His exhibition credits and individual awards are very lengthy.
Jean Rigaud is represented in the permanent collections of at least ten French museums, including: Musee de la Marine, Musee de Niort, Musee de Tours, Musee do Poitiers, Musee Mulhouse, Musee Chalet, Musee Pontoise, Musee Strasbourg.
Immediately after his death in 1999, the Musee de la Marines mounted a one man retrospective of his work, which was met with great critical acclaim.
