Jean Rigaud (1912-1999)

Jean Rigaud was born in Bordeaux, France on June 15, 1912. He was the son of the artist, Pierre Gaston Rigaud, and received his early art education from his father. Later studies at the Ecole des Beaux Art-Paris enabled him to refine his skills and develop the unique style that made him famous. Like his father before him, Jean painted in an Impressionistic style, but his manner was uniquely his. Rigaud works covered many subjects, city scenes, country settings; however, many centered around marine studies. He was the official painter for the French Navy.
During his life, Jean held over 50 one-man exhibitions at all the leading Paris Salons. From 1956 to 1974, he exhibited every other year at the famous Gallerie Duran-Ruel in Paris. His works are held in at least 10 museums in Europe.
